Squeezed between the majestic peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the less lofty White Mountains, [the drive through] the Owens Valley [to McGee Creek] is dotted with hamlets such as Olancha, Independence, Long Pine, Big Pine  and Bishop that add to the impression of the northbound traveler along U.S. 395 that one is heading backward in time.'        By Louis Sahagun  Times Staff Writer

John Muir, Ansel Adams and naturalists worldwide regard this area with reverence.

McGee Creek Lodge, built in 1929, was the original lodge for the first ski slope in the Mammoth Lakes area. The automated slopes migrated into the current Mammoth Ski Resort. The Lodge is now restored to its former glory as a destination once coveted by early Hollywood stars and patrons of pure natural beauty.

Pristine Sierra lakes such as Crowley and Convict offer trout fishing and extraordinary hiking opportunities. Natural hot springs are within minutes drive, as is the town of Mammoth Lakes, and the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park. Our ranch dining offers a variety of dining choices, but you are close enough to go into Mammoth for breakfast. During the fall colors, the foliage is a photographic dream. In the winter, one can ski Mammoth, but return to a completely different lifestyle just 12 minutes away.

Sheltered from major tourism development, this aerial view

shows a majestic beauty which is truly on par with the best mountain environments on Earth.

"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till

sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in."
